Lakeside, On The West Shore! Lake Almanor

Before the umbrelllas go up in the morning, fresh, handmade food is being prepared for the day. One of the things that best represents a good  old fashioned summer at Almanor is dining at Carol’s Cafe on the West Shore. The deck overlooks the lake at this stunning location. For decades, locals and visitors have been returning each summer for great food and good company. Carol adds new creations to the menu each year. You can always count on Carol for a house made meal. From her line-up of fluffy omelettes served with hand-cut fried potatoes or hashbrowns and choice of toast including her fresh baked breads and breakfast muffins. Specials like Carol’s Biscuits & Gravy are just part of summer. How about smoked ham with fresh waffles or blueberry pancakes? A full espresso bar and deli, small gift shop and both indoor and patio dining are available. Carol’s well-rounded menu is filled with tempting choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. House made dressings make her choice of salads extra delicious. For dinner, choose from scrumptious burgers, the classic club or the Corned Beef Rueben with house-cooked corned beef, to name few. The appetizer menu offers great choices too, including Carol’s Crab Cakes and Pub-Style Tempura – Hand Battered Veggies, fried crispy with Chipotle Dipping Sauce. Dinner time offers up a few sandwiches including the Western Burger and Fries. Entrees include a line-up of beef, chicken and seafood selections. From the Sierra Nevada Prawns, nine large shrimp dipped in house made batter and deep fried, served with Carol’s Seafood Sauce. From the Smoked Prime Rib Beef Rib Bones to Classic Chicken Marsala, you’ll love Carol’s for dinner. The Ribeye Steak is a boneless cut, 14 ounces, seasoned, grilled and served with roasted garlic butter. You can even opt for the add-on of shrimp, grilled or deep fried. Vegetarian entrees at Carol.s include a Zesty Power Bowl with red and white quinoa cooked with jalapeño peppers, zucchini, black beans, tomatoes, corn and Mexican spices. She tops it with a grilled and sliced, fresh Portobello mushroom then sprinkles it with green onions. It’s garnished with avocado.

House Specials at Carol’s are popular. Friday Night Fish, as you may have guessed, is available on Fridays (chef’s choice) with Carol’s famous Prime Rib Dinner offered on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday is also when you can get her famous fried chicken dinner, served family style with house made mashed potatoes and gravy. Who can resist the basket of fresh baked biscuits or platter of fresh corn on the cob. You may need a to-go container, but you must save room for dessert. Carol’s is famous also for her fresh pies, made from scratch. Have a scoop of ice cream with it or order a handmade milkshake at Carol’s. You can reach the café by boat also; ask about their courtesy dock. If you’re off to the paved, lakeside bike trails, just up the road from Carol’s, they can pack you a picnic. It’s all about having a good time and great food. Dinner reservations are appreciated.
