Attention seasoned quilters, collectors, beginners and those curious about quilting. On October 27 & 28, 2018, the Oroville Piecemakers Quilt Guild (OPQG) will once again host their biannual Quilt Show from 10am to 4pm (both days) at the Oroville Municipal Auditorium (1200 Meyers Street, Oroville). In addition to the quilts on display, guests will have an opportunity to admire the quilts made during the first annual “Kids Quilt Camp”, browse quilts for sale, and start their holiday shopping at a boutique filled with items hand crafted by the talented members of OPQG. Purchase raffle tickets and try your luck at winning one of over 25 lovely gift baskets full of goodies. In addition you can purchase tickets to win a gorgeous “Star Bright” Opportunity Quilt pictured here; the drawing will be held in December at the guild’s holiday party. This beautiful masterpiece was based on a pattern titled “Swoon” by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms and coordinated by Marla Vaughn, the 2015-2016 OPQG president. While the majority of the blocks were pieced by Marla, contributions were also made by Jan Abramson, Nancy Clayton, Susan Coyle, Claudia Goebl, Ann Harvey, Sharon Helton, Angie Horne, Linda Pearson, and Dorothy Welton. The quilt top was custom quilted by Cathy Evans of Quilts by Cathy in Yuba City, who masterfully adapted several different quilt motifs to enhance the beautiful batiks and precision piecing of this year’s stunning opportunity quilt.
The Oroville Piecemakers Quilt Guild (OPQG) was started in 1981 by a small group of friends who wanted to encourage an interest in quilts and quilting, and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1999. The purposes of the guild are to expand the knowledge of quilt making; promote the appreciation of fine quilts; encourage quilt making and collecting; sponsor and support quilting activities and quilters’ expertise through education, programs and workshops; and provide public service projects for the good of the community. Membership is open to anyone who subscribes to the purpose of the guild. A membership year is from January through December; annual dues are $30. A membership application can be downloaded from orovillepiecemakers.org/about-us. OPQG offers both a day group and an evening group (the “Moonlighters”), both of which meet on the third Thursday of the month. In addition, regularly-scheduled “sew days” are held on the first Thursday of the month, during which either workshops to develop new skills, or group efforts toward community service projects are available. The guild’s business meeting is held on the second Thursday of the month in the meeting room of the Oroville branch of the Butte County Library.
