Since the dawn of time man has been fascinated with the night sky and all that inhabits the heavens. Join us this summer, August 11-13, 2017 for the Dark Sky Festival at Lassen Volcanic National Park.  Special programs, presentations, hikes, and Junior Ranger Night Explorer activities will be offered, hosted by park rangers, astronomers, and astrobiologists celebrating all that is out of this world.

Do you know where in the sky to find the constellation that matches your sign, be it Libra, Leo or Sagitarius? Learn the answer to this and more at this amazing three night festival that includes nightly constellation tours and stargazing as well as discussions and demonstrations by experts of the National Park Dark Sky rangers, members of NASA, the International Dark Sky Association, the Research and Education Collaborative Occultation Network (RECON) and the Astronomical Society of Nevada.

Saturday and Sunday will bring an astrobiology booth to Sulfer Works where astrobiologist Dr. David Des Marais and other NASA experts will be on hand offering information and answering questions.

There is always a $20 per car fee to enter the park, unless you have a valid pass, but the festival is free to the public and welcomes visitors of all ages. Events will be held at Mazanita Lake, Bumpass Hell and the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center. Visit the park online at www.nps.gov/lavo/planyourvisit/dark-sky.htm  for a full schedule of lectures, telescope viewings and all the other fascinating happenings throughout the Dark Sky Festival.

Travel the cosmos with those who study it everyday. Take the kids on an educational moonlight adventure that they will remember for years to come. Join us for the Dark Sky Festival this August at Lassen Volcanic National Park.
