Owners Layne and Denise McLean started their venture in viticulture and wine making by planting a small vineyard on their property in 2009 in the Churn Creek “bottom”. They bottled their first batch under the Fat Basset Vineyards label, opened a tasting room and the rest is history. Years of hard work by this industrious couple has produced several award winning wines, with names like Undefeated and Master Craftsman, that truly capture their entrepreneurial spirit. Beyond their own backyard, the McLean’s love to share their passion for their craft with others. As a result Layne teaches wine making classes at Shasta College and is happy to answer questions and explain the process to visitors to this cheerful little vineyard of the valley.
Churn Creek Cellars is proud to host ‘Art by the Bottle’, a fun time directed by resident artist Ms. Kristine Dickey-Rodola, where patrons gather to have a glass of wine, and complete an art project, all in the same evening.
Whether you come to learn, paint or just for the company and the wine, Layne and Denise are sure to be on hand to show you a great time at Churn Creek Cellars. Drop in, enjoy a bottle of wine and raise a glass to the best from the “bottom.”
