Baum Lake is located in a quaint little community named Cassel, CA. It may be accessed either from Highway 89 or Highway 299 via Baum Lake Road, approximately 9 miles north east of Burney. The moment you arrive you feel a sense of peace and tranquility.
On Hat Creek, adjacent to Crystal Lake Hatchery, it is a mostly shallow lake with slow moving water which makes it perfect for kayaking, bird watching, and fishing. I have observed and photographed Bald Eagles, Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Black-Crowned Night Heron, Pelicans, Cormorants, vultures, otters, frogs and turtles! There is a nearby campground, picnic areas, walking trails and a wheelchair accessible platform to observe fishing and wildlife! What a wonderful place to spend a day!
