Perched on 20 luscious acres, amid a forest of towering oak trees on the banks of Shasta Lake, sits an awesome little hideaway known as Tsasdi Resort. I recently had the pleasure of of an overnight visit with friends. We arrived on a sunny afternoon in the Fall to find owner Scott Schipper busily preparing for a weekend wedding party on the beautiful new deck. The leaves on the oaks were just beginning to change lending a serene sense of calm to the stunning scenery.
We wandered the grounds for awhile with Scott taking in the wonderful improvements he and his business partner and life mate Julie O’Loughlin have made in the short year and a half they have owned this pleasant resort. The lodge is newly remodeled and was beautifully decorated for the upcoming wedding. Rows of tables, hand crafted by our gracious hosts, were set in place to welcome the incoming bridal party. A full commercial kitchen on site makes for easy preparations for any size event, retreat, wedding or reunion.
Bicycles, standing paddle boards and kayaks are also available for guests to enjoy free of charge throughout their stay. At Tsasdi Resort you need only to arrive with suit case and sense of adventure intact. Movie night on an 11 foot screen is another of many events and activities that keep guests at this immaculately clean home away from home entertained.When bass fishing beacons a private dock allows fisherman to park their boats within view of the lake front cabins, solar heated pool and sprawling deck.Winter visitors can hit the slopes of Shasta, just a thirty minute drive, by day and rest in the milder climate lakeside by night at this splendid all seasons base camp for outdoor adventure.

We eventually meandered our way to lake front cabin number four, our cozy digs for the evening. Nostalgic western decor welcomed us inside and Scott pointed out a bullet hole left in the wall by some clumsy hunter of days gone by. One of the seven original cabins built in 1953, our mountain side retreat surely had a bounty of tales to tell if only the walls could talk. We spent a few hours relaxing on our cabin’s deck overlooking the lake and watching the trains cross the bridge high above the water.
After a delightful dinner at Allyson’s Restaurant (also featured in this edition) just a few miles away, we returned to curl up in front of the fireplace with a good book and continue to watch the trains with occasionally lit windows crossing in the dark . I drifted off to sleep under the patchwork quilt on fluffy pillows in my ultra comfy bed. It was a shame to call an end to such a wonderful day.
Twenty cabins are available at Tsasdi Resort ranging from the honeymoon suite that sleeps two with an oversized soaking tub to a full scale modular home that can sleep up to fourteen. There truly is something for everyone at this favorite on Shasta Lake. Julie’s talent for decorating appears around every corner you turn. Below the lodge, adjacent to the deck is a great little area they call the cellar. An adorable little wine bar gives the bridal party a place to primp and wait as well as the perfect spot for the bride to make her grand entrance to the deck.
