Very Special Girls Weekend By Eileen Majors Visit Peppermill Resort & Spa

When we first decided to have a girls weekend in Reno we had no idea we were about to encounter a 33,000 square foot sanctuary of luxurious spa tranquility. This Tuscan treasure is tucked away right on Virginia Street. Spa Toscana at the Peppermill boasts three stories of Tuscan architecture with mosaic tile floors and beautiful fountains. Water features surround the space defining their inspiration for healing waters and ancient rituals. Hot lounging pools and cold plunge pools sit beside the cedar wood sauna and eucalyptus steam sauna located in each of the separate men’s and women’s lounging areas. These areas are accessible to all clients receiving spa treatments. Lockers, slippers and luxurious robes are provided.
Choosing treatments is the best part, as it leaves you planning your future visits too. I ended up booking a couple of treatments for myself that day. We were able to get in by booking the night before but I would recommend booking early, especially if you have a group. Together, you can enjoy a nice Tuscan room full of big, very soft and comfortable chairs and ottomans. Juice, snacks and beverages are available in these luxurious waiting rooms, with, of course, those pools and saunas just down the tiled pathway. Plan to come early for your treatment and stay for the saunas, pools and relaxation areas afterward. Bringing a group was fun. The spa menu is long, the rituals many. A Sacred Stone massage, using heated basalt stones, promises new depths of relaxation. Their Detox Seaweed Mud Wrap soothes sore muscles while drawing toxins from inside. It literally takes you from total relaxation to a refreshing overhead shower experience, finished with a rich, luxurious cream rub and a hot towel. Dozens of choices had our heads turning but we landed on some wonderful options.
Our girls night out included some time in the salon and spa with three generations of the girls in our family. The teens took advantage of salon services while moms and Grandma soaked up spa services. Spa treatments are only available to ages 18 and older, so this Grandma headed to the nail spa with the girls.
Three of us lined up next to each other for nourishing pedicures, each in our choice of flavors. My feet soaked in pumpkin soufflé while the girls enjoyed scents of caramel apple pie and peppermint eucalyptus. The foot treatment included the painting on of warm Shea butter and a wrap using warm, damp towels.
The beautiful room included gorgeous, shimmering glass soaking bowls for our feet. Beverages were offered including wine or Memosa for the adults. Thick Tuscan curtains separate each pedicure station. We thoroughly enjoyed the treatments and our talented technicians. The three of us girls had a room to ourselves (curtains open), where we enjoyed our luxurious pedicures. Our very warm and welcoming technicians seemed to followed our lead, also enjoying our time together and laughing all the way. It was almost Christmas so the pedicures were gifts for the girls; the time we spent together ended up being amazing gift to me. This is one ‘Grandma experience’ I highly recommend!
The ladies and I soon headed to the spa, where we were greeted in a beautiful sitting room filled with wonderful products that we could not resist. After checking in, we were taken to the next floor to begin our experience. We got into the most luxurious robes; the outside layer was as soft as the inside. We settled into big, cozy chairs near a beautiful glass-enclosed waterfall, where we enjoyed our morning coffee and tea before each being called in for our treatments. I was met by Tina, a massage therapist, who led me to a beautiful room filled with relaxing ambience. Lighting and music was perfect but she offered to change anything I wanted. The music gently vibrated through various parts of the massage table in a very relaxing manner. I enjoyed the Wine Down, a full-body massage using chardonnay grapeseed oil. Loaded with antioxidants, this treatment definitely replenished and revitalized my skin.
Our group enjoyed a variety of services including an amazing facial by Olga. Eleven facials are offered and our recipient, who is also a salon owner, greatly enjoyed this pampering experience.
I am not sure what took me so long in discovering this jewel in the middle of Reno, but it became way more than that. It’s an experience I long to return for and in fact, I hope to return for as often as possible. Our entire experience at the Peppermill Resort & Spa was first class. We all commented on how nice all the staff is. The Tuscan elegance extends to every corner of this beautiful hotel. It was a wonderful experience. If you are not necessarily a person who visits a spa often, you might consider it a once-in-a-lifetime discovery. However, it may become more than that, just so you know.
