The excitement is building as the Susanville Symphony prepares for their 2014-2015 season. “The Return of the Red Violin” theme for the Susanville Symphony’s 12th concert year will feature celebrated violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn performing in partnership with her famous Mendelssohn Red Stradivarius. She will be returning to perform the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the orchestra February 20 and 22, 2015. The Symphony Society will also host a private limited ticket parlor concert with prepaid memberships and season ticket holders getting first chance at purchasing tickets. Also planned for her return to Susanville, is a special showing at Sierra Theater of the movie “The Red Violin.” Ms. Pitcairn’s famous instrument is said to be the inspiration for the making of the 1999 Academy Award winning film. But that’s not all. Your season tickets assure you seats to all five of the 2014-2015 concerts:
The name of the popular Swing Band Concert may have changed to the “Susanville Dance Band” but it hasn’t changed the performance quality of the ever popular dance tunes from not only the Big Band era but other eras that will get your foot tapping and out on the dance floor. In December, one of the most beloved concerts of the year is “Small Town, Big Christmas.” This concert brings holiday joy to all who attend. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring the whole family to enjoy holiday classics. Added this year, music to celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanza.
In April, there is something to entice the entire family, “A Family Affair.” In an effort to continue to foster classical music in young people today, the symphony has designed this concert to appeal to families (children and adults alike). Classics such as “Peter and the Wolf“ (Prokofiev), Saint Saen’s,“Carnival of Animals” and more will delight young and old. This truly will be a concert for dad, mom, grandma, grandpa and the kids! Student ticket prices for this concert will be only $5.
The season ends in June with a twist to the yearly Pops concert featuring musical classics of Walt Disney. The concert “The Wonderful World of Disney” will sure to be a lasting memory for years to come and bring wholesome family entertainment to the stage.
