• 8 1/2″ X 11″ paper (2 sheets per card)
• glue or paste • paper doilies
• red and green print fabric and/or wrapping paper
• regular scissors
• scissors that cut in fun shapes
• a hole punch if available
• thin, shiny ribbon
• old Christmas cards to recycle
• colored markers in green, red, gold, and blue, (your choice)
There are lots of things that can be used such as red and/or green ric-rac, flat jewels, pressed flowers or other flat decor (optional) Ever wonder what to do with last year’s Christmas and leftover wrap? Make this year’s! Old Christmas cards can be recycled. Reuse their festive borders, clip art and/or photos when you make your own cards or gift tags.
Start with a piece of paper. Fold it exactly in half. Lightly paste it to make one half size sheet, double thick. Let dry completely. Fold in half again and you are ready to create your card. Clip down one side with some fun shaped scissors. Don’t be afraid of the lettering. Have fun with it. Try our Dot Letters. They are simple and look good even if they are not all the same, perfect size. To cut out and reuse portions of old cards, it looks best to cut out in symmetric shapes like squares, rectangles and circles. use paper doilies and fabrics also cut into shapes or in a rectangle as a background for the card. Glue ribbon or ric-rac around as borders if desired. Cut portions of old cards into rectangle shapes. Punch a hole in the end with a hole punch or poke with a pen.and tie a ribbon through to attach to package. Kids are bound to love this project and who wouldn’t love their handmade cards.
