AN UPSCALE RV SPOT ON I-5

Trends have changed in RV travel over the past few years according to Bill Hollenshade, General Manager of Durango RV Resort in Red Bluff who has long worked in the RV industry. According to Hollenshade, the RV travel business is down about 30% over the last few years, and parks are working hard to offer amenities that will make people want to come and to stay. “The latest trends show travelers are staying within a 400 mile radius”  Hollenshade said,. “In the past,” “a family may have taken the RV to Yellowstone or Disney, while now that family is staying closer to home and exploring areas such as ours, rich in outdoor recreation.” Durango offers easy access to Turtle Bay Park in Redding, Mt. Lassen National Park, local golf courses and the Sacramento River. The park also offers sites on the river.
This Red Bluff RV resort offers quite a collection of things to do right in the park and they have information on river trails, local events and area attractions for their guests. According to Allenshade, there are three types of RV travel. There are destination campers (people who come to park and stay at their destination). There is hotel camping, (where travelers want to stay the night on their way through the area), and then there is base camping, which is rising in popularity. Base campers come to an area, bring an extra vehicle and travel the width of their desired area from their base camp.
Durango in Red Bluff welcomes many travelers off Highway 5 and Hollenshade told us that many that come for a night end up staying for a few. That is not surprising when you get there and see all they have to offer. The beautiful grounds include a large pool, hot spa and connecting recreation room with fireplaces indoors and out. A separate meeting room which connects to their indoor commercial kitchen offers a great spot for club meetings with barbecues also just outside the back door. Sometimes, he told us, they even have a band. Sites are large with pull through access and resort amenities include Bocci ball, basketball, a putting green and more on this 27 acre property with 7 acres of grass a beautiful fountain area. The sparkling pool also has an easy access lift for the disabled. Two large laundry rooms are also provided in this upscale RV resort.
