Spring is finally here!  It’s been a long winter in the mountains.  While we cannot wait to get outside and garden, some of us are inside quilting fabulous flower wall hangings.  Local Fiber artist, Donna Greenwald, from Oroville, a retired art teacher from Chico, combines her artistic design with quilting. She created a number of unique quilting methods to transform a simple garden flower into a large intricate thread painting.

Donna Greenwald is a much sought after quilt instructor. Her award winning art quilts can be identified by her unique use of batik fabrics, thread painting and various beadwork sewn to create a fabulous artful wall hanging. If you have ever taken her classes, you know how much fun Donna can be with her wit and creativity. Her technique for creating amazing floral arrangements are a combination of applique and thread painting.  You would be surprised how forgiving her techniques are.

Be sure to check with your local Quilt Guild or quilt store to find a date and time Donna Greenwald is teaching.  Her tips and tricks are insightful and can be applied to future applique projects. She teaches a simple way to thread paint enjoyed by beginner to advanced quilter.  Lucky for those who are in Chico this May 18-20tth Donna is teaching another fabulous class – Floral Confetti technique. This involves the use of a netting placed over the batik applique creating a unique soft look to the quilted art piece.  The class is held at Honey Run Quilters in Chico from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm each of the 3 days.
