The Grebe is a beautiful large slender bird that likes to breed on large lakes with tules or rushes; they lay 3-4 brownish or blue eggs on a floating nest anchored to the reeds in colonies.  This beautiful female Grebe allowed me to photograph her for several hours from a safe distance. She was a majestic and beautiful model!  From time to time some of the females would swim from the nest and I was able to capture a picture of their eggs!  I was also able to observe a male and female who were raising their young; the female keeps the babies safe on her back while the father searches for food and brings it back to the mother and the young!
