The Red Onion Restaurant Welcomes You

After a particularly long day at the office, Molly and I decided to treat ourselves to dinner and a cocktail at the Red Onion Bar and Grill. We arrived just after 5:00 and owner Filip Laboda greeted us with his usual friendly smile. It was a beautiful day and Lake Almanor just across the street was smooth as glass.
Several guests were enjoying the weather on the main deck while a few others sipped craft beers from the tap on the smaller side deck. We opted to relax in the main dining room tasting a crispy fried asparagus appetizer with a tasty sweet chipotle sauce and a margaritaish drink named the Almanorita that bartender Katherine Counts shook up for us in the full bar. She let us know that the second Saturday of each month means open mic night at the Red Onion and invited us to return the following weekend to join the fun. This little bar really gets hopping, especially in the summer months when most weekends bring live music and dancing.
After entertaining the idea of a medium rare rib-eye for a minute or two I decided that the shrimp tacos with lightly blackened prawns and cool Mexican crema  sounded to good to resist . Molly chose the fish and chips, two large fillets of flaky Alaskan Cod with thick cut fries and plenty of lemon. Both were delicious so we just had to have an extra plate so we could share. The Thai Curry special sounded intriguing and we agreed to come back another day to give it a try. If we hadn’t been so full we might have shared the ultimate chocolate cake that was on the dessert menu too.
Red Onion Bar & Grill is open for dinner open Tuesday thru Sunday, 4-9pm and the bar is usually open later, especially if there is music or an open mic event. Visit them and enjoy!
