Shasta County

Frequent bass tournaments at Shasta Lake draw locals and tourists alike to Shasta County. Trout fishermen, as well as those in search of bluegill, catfish, crappie, salmon and even sturgeon have great success in this ever popular lake. The rolling Sacramento, Pit and McCloud Rivers also run through this picturesque area. The site of these mighty rivers excite those who love to put bait to hook. Those who give it a try from boat, tube, kayak or even from the shore, have great success in this world class trout and steelhead fly-fishing destination. Creeks and streams in this neck of the woods are too numerous to list here as there are over 400 to choose from. A few of the local favorites include Hat Creek, Cottonwood Creek and Burney Creek.

Lassen County

Lassen County offers a unique blend of fishing opportunities where the Sierra Nevada mountain range meets the Great Basin. In the mountains, Eagle Lake, native home of the famous Eagle Lake Trout, offers hot fishing year-round. Mountain Meadows Reservoir (known to the locals as Walker Lake) is a bass fisherman’s paradise. The Hamilton Branch leaves this scenic reservoir and lets you flow seamlessly from lake-to-stream fishing. The wide open spaces of the Great Basin side offer numerous reservoirs, creeks and streams to anglers that like to avoid the crowd. During higher water, Willow Creek and the little known Horse Lake often feel like private fishing areas when you find yourself the lone angler all day.
