Sushi Now At Lake Almanor!

Did you hear? The Red Onion Grill is now offering fresh sushi on Wednesday nights with their regular full menu! I recently had the opportunity to speak with the restaurant’s owner Filip who explained that he’s been making sushi for his wife for years, and this last November decided to put it on a special Wednesday night menu as something extra for the locals. He has found it handy for keeping the business flowing and keeping his employees happily employed throughout the often slower winter months.

The Rolls are priced per roll, prepared fresh, and can be ordered to go. My husband and I were lucky enough to try out some of the fresh rolls on a recent date night. Among traditional choices like California rolls, they also offer rolls with more fitting names for our area, such as my favorite The Almanor, named after the local lake by which the restaurant resides. This roll will sing to your taste buds! From the mango salsa and avocado to the spicy Sriracha, The Almanor had my taste buds dancing in delight.

The Lassen, named after Mt. Lassen volcano, features unagi, avocado, sesame seeds, and unagi sauce. Mmm.

They also offer fried rolls which are Filip’s personal favorite. Among the fried rolls is the Godzilla. It’s stuffed full of ahi tuna, spicy mayo, scallion, unagi sauce, and Sriracha. It’s simple with a sweet zing and just the right amount of spice. The Top Secret is another fried roll which is very popular, filled with rock crab, ahi tuna, tempura shrimp, avocado, scallion, and unagi sauce.

Whatever your preference is, you can’t go wrong at The Red Onion Grill! The sushi is wonderful, along with super-friendly service. There’s nothing too fishy or too spicy. If you’re new to eating sushi the fried rolls may be a good place to start.

Filip plans on pausing the Wednesday night sushi tradition in early June until Fall, but will keep two to three rolls on rotation on the appetizer menu as well as bring in some fresh seafood items for the summer.

So if you find yourself in the mood for a fun, relaxed atmosphere by the lake with mouth watering food, satisfying portions, and superb service than I’d say you’re in the mood for The Red Onion Grill. Enjoy.

Need a reservation? Why wait? They now offer an online reservation system available on their website and Facebook page for their guests to make real-time, instantly confirmed table reservations.
