Dunsmuir Lodge is the Perfect Base Camp for Your Next Mountain Adventure

By Dave Bartle

If you’re planning on fishing the upper Sacramento River this spring or summer, skiing or snowboarding Mt. Shasta or looking for a base camp to explore southern Siskiyou County, Dunsmuir Lodge won’t disappoint. Set back from the road and surrounded by trees, you definitely will feel like you are in the deep woods. The first thing you notice when you enter your room is the beautiful four poster rustic pine, king size bed.  Appointed with extra pillows for laying back and reading or watching TV, they are very comfortable. The rooms are super clean and affordable, too. The lodge has basic rooms but also has two suites available. There is also one premier room that is set apart from the rest of the lodge for privacy with a remote controlled fireplace. Since we had our Border Collie, Rufus, with us we very appreciative of the pet friendly accommodations. There are chairs on the porch outside your room to hangout and admire the sights. If you’ve caught a supply of fish you can take advantage of an area for cleaning them, and outside BBQ’s to cook em’ up. If you got skunked, you will have to settle for a nice rib eye.

Whether you are traveling through for one night, or staying for a while to explore the area, the Dunsmuir Lodge is a great place to stay.
