It is certainly something to see as balloons float across the Reno area throughout the weekend. All shapes and colors including Smokey Bear adorn the skies. The Great Reno Balloon Race is free to spectators thanks to the generous support of event sponsors. It is always scheduled for the first Friday through Sunday after Labor Day.

The 2010 Great Reno Balloon Race takes place September 10th – 12th.

This event includes on-field and off-field competitions as well as a “Glow Show” planned for 5 am on Saturday and Sunday. This is one of the largest hot air balloon festivals in the country. You have to get up early to see the best stuff, but it’s definitely worth it. Before the light begins to dawn, balloons are fired up and glowing across Rancho San Rafael Park. The park encompasses 600 acres just northwest of downtown Reno. For spectators, the event starts on Friday, September 10th with the mass ascension launch of over 100 hot air balloons scheduled for 6:45 am. Events are planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The event is located at Rancho San Rafael Park at 1595 N. Sierra St. in Reno, Nevada
