Healthy Alternatives at ‘Good Vibes’

By Jan Cox

Chester, CA recently welcomed Good Vibrations to their business community. They are located at 278 Main Street in the white two story building next to the babbling brook in the center of town.

Good Vibrations began as an idea of Ronna and Donna Ramsey and Becky Weatherson. They soon took on a fourth member of this team, Sharon Geney. Each of these women had a desire to create a place of beauty that would add to our world in an eco-friendly and healing way. Their products all speak to this philosophy.

I walked around the entire business and was excited to see and also to read about these products. As I looked here and there I saw Coke vases, flip flop remnant mats, purses made from magazines, grocery bags from plastic juice cartons and journals from eco-friendly paper made from recycled cotton rags. My favorites were the softest towels and baby clothes I have ever touched. Imagine my surprise when I am told that they are made from bamboo!

Much of what Good Vibrations carries is made from sustainable products such as cork and bamboo. Many are fair trade items from which a percentage of the money earned goes to help other organizations give back to communities. These organizations provide medical care and educational opportunities for people in the villages where the products are created.

A beautiful artist’s gallery exhibits the work of local photographer Kim James and water colorist Jolene Sherman. There is art work from Bobbie Geney, and Christina Olsen from Brookings OR. Joanna Richard’s tile work, using reclaimed objects, is exceptional.

After spending a great deal of time just wandering on the first three levels, I climbed to the second floor to meet with the practitioners that have offices there. These practitioners all have a high interest in wellness. They use techniques that are often termed alternative, complementary or integrative, meaning that they are techniques that can complement (add to) the healing power of conventional medicine or that can help prevent disease by creating on-going wellness in the body.

Sharon Geney, CMT

At the top of the stairs is the office of Sharon Geney, CMT. Sharon is a massage therapist who offers Relaxing and Therapeutic Massage, Aromatherapy Bodywrap, Foot Massage and Wrap, and Raindrop Therapy. Each of these uses a combination of massage and essential oils that have been found to reduce stress, pain, inflammation and more. Sharon’s integrative massage is meant to bring balance and harmony to the body physically, mentally, and emotionally. Clients can have a half-hour massage for $35, an hour for $60 or 1 ½ hours for $90. Gift certificates are also available. She can be reached at 530-258-4110.

Don Tharp, Doctor of Chiropractic

He has been a chiropractor for 20 years and lives in Chico but comes to Good Vibrations once a week and is happy to be supporting this new business. He offers family chiropractic care and specializes in sports injuries. Dr. Tharp also brings to his practice a knowledge of wellness health care—which encompasses an understanding of the effect our mind has on all we do and all we are. He has studied the natural order of energy in our bodies and the effect the mind has on it. By fully connecting the mind to an awareness of the body, he has been able to help create healing shifts in his patients. You may call for a brief consult or an appointment at 530-518-8052.

Janis Davies, Certified Whole Health Educator

Whole Health Education is an integrative model of health information counseling, bringing a deeper understanding of the body’s natural capacity for healing, and empowering the individual to work with his or her physician and healthcare team to work toward greater health. Janis offers a multi-session comprehensive health and lifestyle review which includes evidence based research. This program can be helpful for someone who has been diagnosed with a disease such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, auto-immune diseases, or for situations such as menopause and weight loss problems, or simply to work on a wellness program to increase one’s immune system function to prevent future diseases.

After listening in a deeply respectful way to her clients as they express their concerns, Janis then offers personalized research information to aid them in their doctor/patient communication and personal management of their healthcare. The clients can then choose which information they wish to utilize. Janis also offers stress reduction clinics, energetic balancing, and breath meditation classes. The fees are on a sliding scale from $35-65 per hour. Group and class rates are available. Call 530-310-1956 for an appointment.

Classes and More

I was shown a ground level room which looked out on the creek and the shady grounds which will be used for classes. A class on homeopathy was held on October 4. Information on class offerings can be found at 530-258-4663.

When I returned to the main floor one last time, I was told about their newest acquisition—the Energetic Detox Footbath. This is a 35 minute ionic footbath that is said to draw out wastes and impurities from the body through the soles of the feet, improving the body’s natural resilience. The cost for this is $40 for a 35 minute session, or 5 sessions at cost with the 6th free.

Good Vibrations has parking both in front and behind the building. . Happy shopping!
